Work toward this outcome aims to reduce the burden of violence and injuries, including death and disabilities, through a strengthened health system response, with a focus on violence in all its forms and on road safety, using a life course approach. The scope of the technical work in this area will include the development and application of guidelines and capacity building of health workers on evidence-based strategies and interventions to prevent violence; respond to the health needs of victims of violence, particularly persons in conditions of vulnerability, to mitigate consequences (such as death and disability); reduce reoccurrence of violence; and respond to the health needs of victims of road traffic crashes and other injuries. The intersectoral work required to address these public health matters is covered under Outcome 15.
