Access to medicines improved through subregional collaboration

PAHO strengthened Saint Lucia’s access to safe, effective, and quality medicines and health technologies by supporting subregional collaboration with the Pharmaceutical Procurement Service of the Organization of Eastern Caribbean States. Through high-level engagement with national authorities and technical coordination, PAHO promoted increased and more strategic use of PAHO’s Regional Revolving Funds, improved pooled procurement, and enhanced supply chain coordination.

These actions strengthened regulatory and governance arrangements for medicines, reduced fragmentation, and improved predictability of supply. By reinforcing procurement mechanisms and policy coordination, PAHO helped to establish more resilient systems to support the elimination of communicable diseases and the prevention and treatment of noncommunicable diseases (NCDs). The resulting improvements in the availability and affordability of essential health technologies contribute directly to continuity of care, better treatment outcomes, and increased access for the population of Saint Lucia.
