Action on social determinants and protection from violence strengthened

During the 2024–2025 biennium, PAHO played a key role in strengthening Anguilla’s capacity to address critical social determinants of health, with particular focus on prevention of and response to violence against women and girls, and healthy aging.

PAHO provided technical cooperation to operationalize validated clinical protocols for the identification, referral, and management of survivors of violence, alongside targeted capacity-building for health providers to ensure quality, accessible, and people centered care. In parallel, PAHO supported Anguilla’s efforts to strengthen policies and practices for healthy aging, reflecting demographic trends and growing demand for age-friendly health services. Technical cooperation focused on integrating healthy aging considerations into primary health care (PHC) and community-based approaches, promoting functional ability, social inclusion, and continuity of care for older adults as well as persons living with disabilities.

These advances strengthened Anguilla’s capacity to promote healthier populations by tackling determinants that disproportionately affect women and girls, older persons, and other groups in situations of vulnerability.
