Climate-resilient health planning advanced

PAHO supported Saint Kitts and Nevis to strengthen national capacity for addressing the social and environmental determinants of health, with a particular focus on climate resilience. During the biennium, PAHO provided direct technical assistance to complete a health National Adaptation Plan (HNAP) and related environmental assessments, generating evidence-based guidance for strengthening the resilience of health infrastructure and service delivery in the context of environmental challenges, including climate change.

These assessments translated climate and environmental risks into actionable recommendations for planning, prioritization, and investment, supporting a more proactive and integrated approach to safeguarding health. Complementary technical cooperation addressed broader social determinants through policy dialogue, capacity-building, and the development of protocols that promote health for all. In Saint Kitts and Nevis, actions to advance healthy aging and health promotion were strengthened, contributing to healthier population trajectories and reduced vulnerability across the life course.

By embedding climate resilience into national health planning, PAHO’s support helps to reduce future health risks, protect service continuity, and improve the sustainability of health gains in a small island developing state that is highly exposed to environmental shocks.
