Climate-resilient health systems advanced

PAHO supported Grenada to strengthen its capacity to address social and environmental determinants of health, with a focus on climate resilience. Technical assistance enabled completion of the health National Adaptation Plan and environmental assessments, providing an evidence base for integrating climate risks into health infrastructure planning and service delivery. These outputs support more resilient health facilities and continuity of essential services in the face of climate-related hazards.

In parallel, PAHO advanced action on social determinants through targeted support to prevent and respond to violence against women, girls, and other groups in situations of vulnerability. This included the development and validation of clinical protocols, training of health providers, and national awareness initiatives, strengthening the health sector’s role in protection, early identification, and referral.

These advances contribute to reducing vulnerability, improving access for groups in situations of vulnerability, and mitigating avoidable health risks linked to environmental shocks and social disparities, thereby supporting healthier and more resilient populations. Embedding the principle of health for all into climate and social determinant actions helped Grenada move from fragmented interventions toward more systematic, intersectoral approaches.
