Community mental health care expanded through mhGAP 2.0 and QualityRights

In 2024–2025, Honduras expanded access to mental health services in 34 first level health facilities serving more than 2.7 million people, strengthening early detection and timely management through a community based approach.

PAHO sustained implementation through the operational adaptation of the Mental Health Gap Action Programme (mhGAP 2.0), the training of 78 professionals across three health regions, and technical support to establish care pathways and follow up mechanisms that improve continuity of care. In parallel, the development of QualityRights implementation plans in 6 regions, in collaboration with the Secretariat of Health, integrated a human rights-based approach and quality improvement into service delivery.

These advances enhance the resolutive capacity of the first level of care, reduce avoidable referrals to hospitals, and prioritize groups facing the greatest barriers to access, thereby contributing to improved mental health outcomes and health for all.
