Emergency preparedness and surveillance capacities enhanced

During the biennium, PAHO strengthened Saint Kitts and Nevis’ preparedness for health emergencies through a comprehensive package of technical assistance focused on workforce readiness, surveillance, and coordination mechanisms. The country benefited from PAHO-supported training in incident management, emergency coordination, and response tools, enhancing national capacity to manage multihazard events. Surveillance and laboratory readiness were reinforced through the digitalization of syndromic and event-based surveillance and the deployment of standardized information system modules, improving early warning and response functions.

With greater operational readiness to detect, assess, and respond to public health threats, the country is better able to support the continuity of essential health services during emergencies. By strengthening preparedness and response capacities in a small-island context vulnerable to climate-related and other hazards, PAHO has contributed to reducing the health impacts of emergencies and improving the resilience of the health system over time.
