Foundations strengthened for healthy aging

During the 2024–2025 biennium, Sint Maarten took important steps toward healthy aging by conducting its first comprehensive baseline assessment, strengthening the country’s long-term capacity to respond to demographic change.

PAHO played a pivotal role in collecting and analyzing data using the global aging framework. This process mobilized governmental and nongovernmental stakeholders to generate a holistic picture of the health, social, and environmental factors affecting older adults. The assessment, facilitated by PAHO, generated clear, evidence-based priorities that informed the development of a nationally endorsed road map for healthy aging, outlining short‑, medium‑, and long‑term actions to advance integrated care, age‑friendly environments, improved data use, and multisectoral collaboration.

By embedding a Health in All Policies approach, Sint Maarten is now better positioned to adopt whole‑of‑government strategies that promote healthy, active, and independent aging. This work significantly strengthens the country’s long‑term capacity to respond to demographic change and establishes a solid foundation for sustained progress in healthy aging.
