Immunization and digital innovations expanded to strengthen disease prevention and surveillance

The Turks and Caicos Islands has expanded its national immunization schedule by introducing new vaccines, including the human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine, contributing to broader disease prevention across the life course, particularly among adolescents.

During 2024-2025, PAHO provided cold chain supplies and equipment, enhancing vaccine storage and distribution capacity, and donated equipment to support immunization data management and reporting. The country piloted the VPD-SMART (Vaccine-Preventable Diseases Surveillance, Monitoring, Analysis, Reporting, and Tracking) tool, which is available offline, with a view to improving data collection in settings with limited or unreliable connectivity and strengthening the timeliness and quality of immunization and vaccine-preventable disease surveillance data. These efforts support the digital transformation of immunization and surveillance systems.
