In the 2024–2025 biennium, PAHO supported the Ministry of Health and Wellness in implementing and scaling up the Perinatal Information System Plus (SIP+) as a core component of the national digital health agenda in The Bahamas.
Building on initial implementation, PAHO provided technical and logistical support for the national rollout of SIP+, extending its use beyond New Providence to Grand Bahama and multiple Family Islands, reaching 246 health workers by December 2025. This included hands-on training focused on integrating SIP+ into routine maternity care workflows, improving data quality, and standardizing the collection and use of perinatal information for clinical management and decision-making. PAHO’s support combined technical expertise with practical facilitation, including on-site training and coordination to ensure participation from geographically dispersed islands. As a result, maternity and maternal–child health personnel across the country were equipped with the skills needed to consistently capture and use high-quality perinatal data.
These efforts strengthened national capacity to monitor maternal and newborn health trends, identify gaps in care, and support evidence-informed service improvements. By reinforcing information systems across levels of care, this achievement contributes to improving the continuity and quality of maternal and newborn services, supports accountability for outcomes, and underpins longer-term efforts to reduce preventable maternal and neonatal morbidity and mortality.
