During the 2024–2025 biennium, PAHO provided direct technical cooperation to strengthen health governance and stewardship in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, culminating in the development and adoption of a new national health policy. This achievement was grounded in the application of the essential public health functions (EPHF) assessment, which generated an evidence-based diagnosis of institutional strengths and gaps, and informed policy dialogue with national authorities. PAHO supported the Ministry of Health through technical guidance, facilitation of consultations, and alignment with regional and global normative frameworks, ensuring that the policy reflects a life-course and PHC–centered approach.
The new national health policy provides a coherent framework to guide system-wide reforms, strengthen stewardship, and improve coordination across programs and partners. By clarifying strategic priorities and roles, it strengthens the enabling environment for more efficient use of resources, improved service organization, and accountability for results. Over time, this policy foundation is expected to contribute to improved access to quality health services for all and greater responsiveness of the health system to population needs.
