PAHO played a key role in strengthening Saint Kitts and Nevis’ capacity to prevent and manage noncommunicable diseases (NCDs), in line with the Better Care for NCDs initiative. Through direct technical cooperation, PAHO supported the completion or updating of the national NCD plan, strengthening governance arrangements and providing a coherent policy framework for risk-factor reduction, service integration, and population-based prevention. Complementary technical assistance strengthened service delivery and community engagement, supporting more effective integration of NCD prevention and care within primary health care.
Greater capacity for addressing leading causes of morbidity and mortality was achieved through more systematic, evidence-based approaches that promoted healthier behaviors and improved continuity of care. By strengthening national planning and service capacity for NCDs, PAHO contributed to improved health outcomes, reductions in avoidable complications, and more sustainable management of chronic conditions.
