During the biennium, PAHO provided sustained technical cooperation to strengthen national capacity for noncommunicable disease (NCD) prevention and care in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, with notable progress made toward cervical cancer elimination. Support focused on strengthening policy frameworks, service delivery models, and community engagement aligned with the Better Care for NCDs initiative. PAHO contributed technical guidance to advance cervical cancer elimination strategies, including progress on human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine introduction and expansion of screening services.
This achievement has resulted in broader support to promote health and well-being policies and strengthened integration of NCD services within PHC. By reinforcing prevention, early detection, and continuity of care, this achievement contributes to reducing avoidable morbidity and mortality from NCDs. In the medium to long term, improved coverage of HPV vaccination and screening is expected to lower cervical cancer incidence and deaths, while stronger NCD service integration supports healthier lives and more sustainable health system performance.
