Preparedness and response to health emergencies enhanced

PAHO contributed to strengthening Barbados’ preparedness and response capacities for health emergencies by providing targeted technical assistance in surveillance, laboratory readiness, and coordination mechanisms. Support included the digitalization of syndromic and event-based surveillance and the strengthening of laboratory capacities, enhancing early-warning and rapid-response functions. These efforts were complemented by regional investments in training and coordination under multicountry initiatives, reinforcing Barbados’ ability to respond to all-hazards emergencies within a subregional framework.

By improving operational readiness and system resilience, these outputs help to safeguard essential health services during crises and reduce the health impacts of emergencies, in alignment with national priorities for disaster resilience and health security.
