Preparedness for multihazard health emergencies strengthened

In the area of health emergency preparedness and response, PAHO contributed to strengthening the British Virgin Islands’ capacity to manage health risks associated with emergencies and disasters.

During the 2024–2025 biennium, the Organization supported preparedness-related activities that enhanced operational readiness, surveillance, coordination, and application of incident management principles. These activities improved capacity to activate and manage multihazard responses. By strengthening staff competencies and reinforcing all-hazards preparedness approaches, PAHO’s technical support helped to improve the resilience of the health system. This is critical for reducing morbidity and mortality during disasters, maintaining essential health services, and minimizing health system disruption in a context of high vulnerability to natural disasters.
