Jamaica advanced its national road safety agenda during 2024–2025 through strengthened enforcement, data systems, and evidence generation, and reduced alcohol-related traffic risks, with the support of PAHO and the United Nations Road Safety Fund.
Technical cooperation focused on improving institutional capacity for alcohol-related road safety enforcement, with new breathalyzers comprising 25.7% of tests conducted between 1 January and 20 May 2025. PAHO provided guidance on enforcement protocols, supported training for relevant authorities, and strengthened data systems used to monitor alcohol-related crashes and injuries. In parallel, PAHO supported operational research on drink-driving and speeding, generating evidence to inform policy and future interventions.
These results contributed to safer road environments, improved deterrence of high-risk behaviors, and more evidence-informed road safety planning. The achievement supports reductions in road traffic injuries and fatalities, advances intersectoral action for health, and contributes to healthier and safer communities in Jamaica.
