During the 2024–2025 biennium, progress was made under the leadership of the Dutch Ministry of Health in updating mental health policies and legislation. PAHO supported the revision of mental health policies across Bonaire, Saba and Sint Eustatius. This process helps to ensure that national frameworks support strengthened protection of mental health and psychosocial well being and provide a coherent basis for planning and delivering mental health services across the three territories.
A national noncommunicable diseases (NCD) plan that integrates key associated risk factors is in place in Sint Eustatius. PAHO continues to work with the territory to support the implementation of priority actions outlined in its NCD plan. Quality nutrition care is also being incorporated into the healthy lifestyle program currently being implemented on the island. The implementation of integrated approaches is important to ensure coherent prevention and management of NCDs by addressing underlying risk factors and promoting healthy behaviors.
