Health governance and primary health care strengthened with a long-term vision

During the 2024–2025 biennium, PAHO provided strategic technical cooperation to Panama to cohesively strengthen health stewardship and advance the transformation of the health system based on primary health care (PHC). This support contributed to the formulation and validation of the national health policy and its strategic guidelines for the period 2026–2035, grounded in a rigorous evaluation of the previous policy and in prospective planning and results‑based management methodologies.

National preparedness for health emergencies and disasters strengthened

Panama promoted the comprehensive strengthening of preparedness and risk management for health emergencies and disasters, with an emphasis on system resilience and the continuity of essential services.

Immunization program strengthened with a life‑course approach

With technical support from PAHO, Panama strengthened its Expanded Program on Immunization through updated strategies based on a life-course approach, prioritizing unvaccinated and undervaccinated populations.

Integrated HIV services oriented toward elimination

In December 2025, Panama launched the Plan for the Integration of HIV Care Services within the framework of the regional Disease Elimination initiative, with the aim of eliminating perinatal HIV transmission by 2028 and transmission through other modes by 2032.

National response to dementias strengthened with a comprehensive approach

With PAHO technical cooperation, Panama completed the development of a national plan for addressing dementias for the period 2025–2030, aligned with national, regional, and global objectives.
