A major milestone for Saint Vincent and the Grenadines during the biennium was the achievement of certification for the elimination of mother-to-child transmission (EMTCT) of HIV and syphilis.
PAHO supported Saint Vincent and the Grenadines to advance the integration of mental health into primary health care (PHC) by strengthening governance, legislation, and service capacity. Through direct technical assistance, PAHO supported the development of drafting instructions for a mental health bill, aligning national legislation with international human rights standards and community-based models of care. In parallel, technical cooperation focused on building service delivery capacity through the application of internationally recommended tools and approaches, including training of health workers to support task-sharing and integration of mental health into PHC.
During the biennium, PAHO provided sustained technical cooperation to strengthen national capacity for noncommunicable disease (NCD) prevention and care in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, with notable progress made toward cervical cancer elimination. Support focused on strengthening policy frameworks, service delivery models, and community engagement aligned with the Better Care for NCDs initiative. PAHO contributed technical guidance to advance cervical cancer elimination strategies, including progress on human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine introduction and expansion of screening services.
During the 2024–2025 biennium, PAHO provided direct technical cooperation to strengthen health governance and stewardship in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, culminating in the development and adoption of a new national health policy. This achievement was grounded in the application of the essential public health functions (EPHF) assessment, which generated an evidence-based diagnosis of institutional strengths and gaps, and informed policy dialogue with national authorities. PAHO supported the Ministry of Health through technical guidance, facilitation of consultations, and alignment with regional and global normative frameworks, ensuring that the policy reflects a life-course and PHC–centered approach.
PAHO supported Saint Vincent and the Grenadines to strengthen emergency preparedness and response capacities, with tangible results following Hurricane Beryl. Through direct technical assistance, PAHO supported after-action reviews and updates to multihazard preparedness plans, ensuring that lessons learned from the response were systematically documented and translated into institutional improvements. In addition, the support provided contributed to strengthening coordination mechanisms, surveillance, and operational readiness within the health sector.
