During the 2024–2025 biennium, Trinidad and Tobago advanced in a comprehensive review of its National Essential Medicines List (NEML), reinforcing the foundations of access to quality-assured medicines for all.
Trinidad and Tobago strengthened its capacity to address the health impacts of environmental challenges, including climate change, through the completion of a national vulnerability and adaptation assessment.
Trinidad and Tobago advanced its mental health agenda through a comprehensive evaluation of the National Mental Health Policy 2019–2029, with technical support from PAHO.
The largest tertiary facility in Trinidad and Tobago achieved accreditation under the Baby Friendly Hospital Initiative in November 2025, the fifth of the country’s six public maternity hospitals to do so. The initiative strengthens national breastfeeding support systems and advances national efforts in the areas of obesity prevention and maternal and child health.
Trinidad and Tobago is now better prepared for health emergencies thanks to the development of comprehensive hospital evacuation plans for the Port of Spain General Hospital and the St. James Medical Complex. This work represents a key institutional advance in ensuring the continuity of essential health services during disasters and other high impact emergency events.
