During the 2024–2025 biennium, PAHO made a substantive contribution to strengthening health governance and stewardship in Saint Kitts and Nevis by supporting the application of the Essential Public Health Functions (EPHF) assessment and translating its findings into strategic reforms.
PAHO supported Saint Kitts and Nevis to strengthen national capacity for addressing the social and environmental determinants of health, with a particular focus on climate resilience. During the biennium, PAHO provided direct technical assistance to complete a health National Adaptation Plan (HNAP) and related environmental assessments, generating evidence-based guidance for strengthening the resilience of health infrastructure and service delivery in the context of environmental challenges, including climate change.
Under PAHO’s technical leadership, Saint Kitts and Nevis advanced the reorganization and integration of mental health services into primary health care during the biennium. PAHO provided sustained technical assistance to strengthen mental health governance, supporting the development of drafting instructions for a mental health bill aligned with rights-based, community-oriented models of care.
PAHO played a key role in strengthening Saint Kitts and Nevis’ capacity to prevent and manage noncommunicable diseases (NCDs), in line with the Better Care for NCDs initiative. Through direct technical cooperation, PAHO supported the completion or updating of the national NCD plan, strengthening governance arrangements and providing a coherent policy framework for risk-factor reduction, service integration, and population-based prevention.
During the biennium, PAHO strengthened Saint Kitts and Nevis’ preparedness for health emergencies through a comprehensive package of technical assistance focused on workforce readiness, surveillance, and coordination mechanisms.
