Progress made toward elimination of mother-to-child transmission 

During the 2024–2025 biennium, the Turks and Caicos Islands submitted its report to the Regional Validation Committee for validation of the elimination of mother-to-child transmission (EMTCT) of HIV, syphilis, and hepatitis B, marking an important milestone in the country’s path toward elimination of communicable diseases.

Primary health care strengthened for mental health conditions and noncommunicable diseases

In the 2024–2025 biennium, PAHO supported the Turks and Caicos Islands in strengthening health services capacity by integrating the Mental Health Gap Action Programme (mhGAP) and HEARTS in the Americas initiatives into primary health care (PHC).

Immunization and digital innovations expanded to strengthen disease prevention and surveillance

The Turks and Caicos Islands has expanded its national immunization schedule by introducing new vaccines, including the human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine, contributing to broader disease prevention across the life course, particularly among adolescents.

Health system strengthened through a national health sector strategic plan 

In 2024, the Turks and Caicos Islands strengthened health sector stewardship through the launch of the National Health Sector Strategic Plan 2024–2027, which provides a unified strategic framework to guide national health priorities and implementation over a three-year period, supporting better coordination, prioritization, and accountability across the sector.

Resilience strengthened through enhanced preparedness 

 Through collaboration with PAHO, the Turks and Caicos Islands strengthened health emergency preparedness and environmental health capacities, enhancing resilience to hurricanes and other public health threats.
