During the 2024–2025 biennium, PAHO played a critical role in supporting the Ministry of Health of Guyana to commission five new regional hospitals, a major structural advance toward health for all.
PAHO significantly strengthened Guyana’s health workforce pipeline by supporting the completion of a new three year hybrid nursing curriculum for registered nurses, developed in collaboration with the Ribeirão Preto School of Nursing, University of São Paulo.
In the 2024–2025 biennium, PAHO made a substantial contribution to strengthening Guyana’s maternal health outcomes, supporting the country’s progress toward achieving the global target for maternal mortality reduction (fewer than 70 maternal deaths per 100 000 live births by 2030).
PAHO supported a major advancement in Guyana’s mental health information system through the launch of the National Suicide and Attempted Suicide Surveillance System in 2025.
During the 2024–2025 biennium, PAHO played a pivotal role in strengthening Guyana’s national response to tobacco use by expanding access to evidence based cessation services and reinforcing the health system’s capacity to address tobacco use as a major risk factor for noncommunicable diseases.
