Health governance and service planning capacity strengthened

During the 2024–2025 biennium, PAHO provided sustained technical cooperation to strengthen Grenada’s health governance and stewardship, contributing to a more coherent and evidence-informed health system.

Climate-resilient health systems advanced

PAHO supported Grenada to strengthen its capacity to address social and environmental determinants of health, with a focus on climate resilience. Technical assistance enabled completion of the health National Adaptation Plan and environmental assessments, providing an evidence base for integrating climate risks into health infrastructure planning and service delivery. These outputs support more resilient health facilities and continuity of essential services in the face of climate-related hazards.

Mental health integrated into primary health care

PAHO played a central role in strengthening Grenada’s capacity to reorganize and integrate mental health services into primary health care.

Noncommunicable disease prevention and care capacity expanded

With PAHO technical support, Grenada strengthened governance and service delivery for noncommunicable disease (NCD) prevention and care. During the biennium, Grenada completed or updated its national NCD plan, establishing a clearer policy framework for population-level risk factor reduction and integration of NCD services into primary health care. PAHO also supported the scale-up of the HEARTS initiative, improving standardized management of hypertension and diabetes and expanding the use of digital platforms for NCD surveillance. In parallel, Grenada advanced cervical cancer elimination efforts, including progress on HPV vaccine introduction and screening expansion, and strengthened its cancer registry, improving the availability of high-quality data for monitoring and accountability.

Emergency preparedness and response capacities reinforced

PAHO significantly strengthened Grenada’s capacity to prepare for and respond to health emergencies. Technical assistance supported updates to multihazard emergency plans and completion of after-action reviews, including lessons learned from Hurricane Beryl, ensuring that preparedness measures were informed by real-world experience.
